A random game mode just shot into my brain while I was talking with a friend over steam.

Here's everything I wrote down. (Only add ideas at the bottom.)

Actually does sound like a great gamemode.

Fixed

Stop trolling, you tards.

Also, how do i lock the titanpad?

I lagged out. Too many idiots spamming the doge.

Heres an idea! Dont use  titan pad -_-

Also, any ideas would be appreciated.

I think there needs to be some element of protecting supply lines, and making sure that your city stays stocked with supplies, also making sure that there's diplomacy to the outside world to keep your suppliers sending relief and not giving up like "forget that, there's aliens."  Also, protection and evacuation of refugees would be an interesting element as well.

The whole encounter is supposed to last less than 30 minutes, and focuses on defending against an extremely powerful force, not relying on outside sources for help, besides the rescuers.

I honestly think there's a glaring problem here -
This either needs to be scaled depending on player count, or needs a 'minimum' amount of players before a round begins to make sure it's not just a one man army or whatever.

Also, could there be NPC's beside civs/aliens, such as a soldier NPC or a police NPC, or a criminal?

As a final suggestion: there should be an X-Com-esque team/unit/whatever that's basically an elite version of soldiers. They'd have a random strong gun(chosen by the minigame's setup), a grenade of some sort, a healing kit, and a strong melee weapon. There'd be roughly six people on this team, including a 'leader' of sorts who basically decides what the team would do. They'd all have 3/4ths max ammo except for the leader, who would have a full set of ammunition and two strong guns(also chosen by the minigame setup).

There were supposed to be soldier/police NPCs that the general could command, and send to several different places in the city. I also think that players should be able to arm rescued civs to fight

A retaliation force wouldn't be able to assemble in that time; it just makes no sense.  If an alien blitzkrieg just came out of nowhere, would we really stand a chance?

It's more likely that the entire city or multiple cities would be lost before any force could be assembled.

I also think that players should be able to arm rescued civs to fight
I think there would be too much shell shock for that to be effective.

It's a great question, and I think that a game mode like this would just be very difficult, and need amazing organization and skill to accomplish saving your own ass during the invasion.

Now all we need is someone with enough free time and/or skill to turn this idea into an actual game mode
