Author Topic: A question about Remote Access (in this case called Remote Desktop Connection)  (Read 579 times)

Hey Forums, I'm trying to set up a remote desktop connection thinggy, but it's asking for a computer name.
Where would I be able to find the name of the computer (in the format they're asking for)?
To elaborate, I have two computers in front of me. How do I get the address thing for the one on my right, so I can use the desktop tool to do stuffs.

If its connected in the same network use the Computer Name(eg WIN-LAPTOP,DESKTOP) Or look for the pc in network and right click and click connect with remote... Also to use it you need a Pro version of Windows on the pc you want to connect to. In case you didnt know

Or just use Teamviewer which is the same but its better and free

I have this open right now and have it open almost all the time connected to my VPS.

There you enter in the IP/Domain of the target computer.

I'm using teamviewer, but the school's internet blocks are interrupting the connection. Any way to get past this?

bring your own wireless router and equipment to school

Get a VPN, they can be pretty cheap and usually come with free software to make the routing extremely easy.

Does this actually work?

If you bring a router and plug it into the ethernet connection supplied by the school, you can create a wireless access point and the administrators won't be able to see the computers connected via your router. This will not get around internet blocks, though.

Though, you can configure the router to automatically route all traffic through a VPN, which would get around internet blocks. These are kinda cool for the purpose. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704194

Kinda cool since you can plug it in, say under a computer station, and then just plug the station's ethernet into the router, and then plug the station back into the router (with a spare ethernet cable). Then you have a wireless setup, and possibly even a vpn set up for people to use.
