Author Topic: [RANT] Am I the only one sick of this '> mfw i use funne greentext lelele' stuff  (Read 2058 times)

It's just a way of expressing a point.
It's just another punctuation symbol.
I hate memes and mainstream stuff as much as anyone but even I'm not going to go "hur dur you use quotation marks what a friend".

honestly if you feel that you need to write in a special style and put a special symbol in front of your sentences to get your point across then you maybe you need to invest that time into learning to write better

it comes from 4chan like a meme
No it doesn't. It comes from e-mails/ message boards from back in the day where you'd use > to quote someone

it spreads like a meme
No it didn't

it gets old like a meme
Only to people who think anything that is used en masse is a bad thing

it's a meme
No

Is there any particular reason that you DON'T like it (other than: it sux)? I love it, it's easy as forget to read, allows for creative and humorous adaptation, more descriptive and understandable than normal writing, I'd imagine it would be useful for people who suffer from ADHD, ect. It's just generally pretty convenient.
gonna go with this because there is no such thing as tl;dr in a greentex because greentext gets to the point

This is completely incorrect. They are bullet points. You really think that people who use bullet points are typographically inferior to those who don't? That's insane. We're not writing essays for English class in MLA format when we're messing around on the internet. Bullet points have tons of benefits.

I think if you need sentences to be written out in long format because you have difficulty reading bullet points, you need to invest time in furthering your reading comprehension ability. Any intelligent fool can make something complex, it takes skill to make something complex more simple.

we're not talking about bullet points here
we're talking about a stale, antiquated form of writing that's cheaply imitated by people who use it for stupid stuff
for example, maybe you want to say that you went to the store today and ran into someone you dont like, instead of saying ">mfw ran into annoying guy at store", it would be infinitely better and more descriptive to write it out completely

not to mention, there is no reason for anyone to >put the time in to change the color and change the way they type for the sake of being cool and trendy
the user isn't trying to list something or even use something resembling a bullet point, they're trying to be funny without putting any actual effort into making their joke or experience interesting
