can i put a laptop hard drive in a desktop?

i have a sata hitachi 250gb hard drive, im just wondering if im going to be able to somehow put it in my computer and connect SATA to it, i've been digging around for spare computer parts in a laptop i disassembled for hours so

yeah with a cable connect the cable to the mobo and the disk and see if it works
it might need some other cable too like my 1tb one did
