If you don't want to alt-tab between the game and the map, run the game in windowed mode.
If your machine sucks so much that you have to run the game fullscreen, print out the map.
If you can't print out the map, draw it on a piece of paper.
If you can't draw, then get used to alt-tabbing until you've used the map enough to memorize it.
