Author Topic: Weird Windows account bug?  (Read 665 times)

so... instead of being under a user file like my name or something, all of my documents and files are under the user "UpdatusUser." i know full well what this is--it's someting set up by nVidia (which is odd because i have an AMD setup). i never really noticed it until now, but this is kinda bugging me. it's not a huge inconvenience, but i can't change the name.

i've seen tutorials online about this and how to remove the UpdatusUser user folder, but that's not what i want to do. why is all of my stuff stored under here and how do i fix this? any whiz kids around that knows a thing or two about computers? i can't find a single person with a similar problem online

this is my users folder. no "Aaron" account anywhere (it's my name, before my last windows reinstall the user name was aaron_000)

i probably took what you said the wrong way so this PROBABLY wouldnt work but if someone just asked me this i would just say drag the *whatever folder stuff was moved to* to desktop* select everything in it, and drag the things where they should be

once again might not work or be possible but worth a try eh

that's a lot of stuff to move though :(

the second problem that would pose is that everything new that would use the My Documents library would use the one under the UpdatusUser account rather than if i just made an "Aaron" user folder.. which i don't understand why this would even start me out in nVidia's bullstuff user account anyway. i don't even have any nVidia hardware

run a virus scan, maybe you got some phony nvidia virus thing

that's what i thought, but the last like 5 scheduled scans came up clean

it's not a huge problem, just a bit annoying. i was wondering if anyone here knew how to fix it, if it's at all possible

Updatus User is not really an account but its nvidia's way of checking for updates so you don't get the clusterforget of prompts asking you if you want to allow updates.

Apparently its a work around for Windows 7 Users, in Windows 8/8.1 It has no reason in being there unless you upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and Migrated your files.

In that case you uninstall the nvidia updater and the folder should be gone, if not you should be able to delete it after.

Try an anti-rootkits scan too if that's an option. Shouldnt take as long, normally pretty quick. Just to be safe.

problem is is that all of my files and folders are there.

but oh, thanks for that clarifying info lol

If you suspect its a virus then Get Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Super Anti Spyware, just run a quickscan with both.
