Author Topic: my IP keeps changing locations  (Read 708 times)

randomly one day, my IP changed and now it says I'm located in Des Moines, Iowa. I don't live there nor do I want to, but I'm wondering why it changed to this even though I didn't do anything. It still says my provider is Mediacom, which it is. why is this happen
so 2 months ago my IP location changed to Des Moines, Iowa, then a few days later it was Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Since then, it has changed to Nevada City, Muskogee, Great Bend, and some other locations. This is really annoying because all the time I have to open my email and get a code whenever I log into Steam because my IP is in a new location, and it's hard as forget to port forward because my IP changes all the loving time. All the locations are around the midwest, which is strange because I live on the east coast.

does anyone know why this is happening

Well, that's pretty

This is called a dynamic IP. Ask your ISP if you can switch to a static IP.

Keep in mind some charge for a static IP - $2-$20 in most cases. Comcast charges $15/m for one.

I don't have this issue and I'm pretty sure I don't have a static IP

Is somebody in your house turning the router/modem on and off a lot?

It's not your router that gives you the IP, it's your isp
