Certain motherboard temp readers in combination with certain software show values like that. I'm fairly certain that if any part of your motherboard was that hot then it'd automatically shut down your pc to prevent damage, that might only apply to CPUs though, and even then it might only apply to older CPUs such as the athlon 64 (personal experience here!).
