Ah something I love is building forts and such. Here are some things that are good for forts:
1. Keep any spawn points in the fort away from thin walls. Usually it is good to have a walkway or corridor between the spawn room and the outerwall to protect against splash damage causing a spawn kill.
2. Do not make maze bases. Even if you may know how to navigate it perfectly, if you need to move quickly the extra turns will slow you down.
3. Don't have windows open into corridors that are frequently used as snipers can easily get you through things like that.
4. Keep windows 2 bricks above the floor of the level incase of heavy fire, you can duck and avoid.
5. Keep all windows under 2 bricks tall. If a window is tall enough it can be crawled through which would leave and easy attack route for someone to infaltrate a base. My suggestion is actually to make the 2 brick tall window and then place a plate brick on the top outside edge of the window to stop people from crawling in while giving you the ability to crouch in the window and snipe from it.
6. Try to avoid blindspots on your fort, especially around corners on the side of your forts entrance, as people tend to camp in those areas to kill you upon exiting.
7. Have more than one entrance and exit to your fort. The more exits the better, the more entrances the worse. The reason behind this is every entrance is a chance for an attacker to come in. If you have an elevated exit, however, you can escape your fort secretly (or not) and people wont be able to get in that way unless building is on. However mulitple entrances should also be used incase you are being persued and you need a quick escape to safety
8. Off of #7, try and make rooms to cover the inside of your entrances so you can easily moderate who comes in, or not.
9. Sniper towers are good and all but they are often times bad as players spend more time in the tower than in the main fort and could have someone sneak up behind them in their own fort. My suggestion to stop this is have a lower sniper tower with stairs instead of a ladder or none at all and merely have a room in the front of your fort for easy sniping.
10. Overhanging sections of a fort should have some way to see underneath the section while in it. Preferably a see-through floor with a solid walkway on the side. This prevents the enemy from hiding under the section easily and alerts you to their presence.
That is all the suggestions I could come up with now and I hope these help someone.
