There was a kid who was attacked by a dog and his cat attacked the dog and chased it away.

Dogs do this too. They'll protect their owners as well.
And they'll protect the other dogs in their family, and other pets, including cats too.

My dog has rescued my cats when they've been attacked by other cats.
