I'm hosting a NAS and its all local, and they're going to charge me for that?

Companies do anything to milk the cash cow.

you cant really alter between dynamic and static at will. you have to call them up to change your internet plan. if your parents chose static for whatever reason in the plan, chances are youre already paying for it in your bills so no extra charges will come out of it by using it. it just bumps up your overall payment because its an extra feature. there is no usage charge.

but by default your ip will be dynamic unless you tell them otherwise. so ask your parents

and just because your router doesn't want to change its ip often or at all (my case, my router is self aware), doesn't mean you have a static ip
