Author Topic: Account protection for Blockland keys  (Read 1160 times)

I mean, it's not a request, but why is there no key protection? Has Badspot considered this?

There has been multiple instances where people have their keys taken, and they can mostly do nothing about it except deactivate the key. Shouldn't there be something like Steam Guard, where logging on again at a different location has to make you type in a code to play? It's one thing to get a video game key taken, but a probably more serious crime would be an email password.

Discuss. Any other ways to do protect keys other than to not post them on the Internet.

most cases of key theft was by the owners own incompetence of keeping private data.

This, but sometimes they are hacked into, like the drama about CBM getting hacked with ID's being shared, but I think there should be something like this.

The only reliable way I can possibly think to protect Blockland Keys would be to be able to manually deactivate a key and re-regenerate it through your E-Mail.

A lot of people would be unable to play the game at all because they don't have access to the email they originally bought the game with.

I had my grandma buy the game so the key went to her email. She then forwarded it to me.

You aren't getting his point.

In the case of the recent drama I (personally) think it would be best if badspot changed all but the first 5 characters of their keys, and just PM them the new one over the forums.

It would not be required to use the E-Mail to use the Key, it would be required to use the E-Mail to reset the key in case of a suspected Key theft.
My example was not related to a Steam Guard-like method.

also there needs to be an option where forum users can get access to their keys through forum for people who keep forgetting it

Steam guard doesn't use locations iirc. It uses some ssfn key item stored on your computer.

how is it even possible to get someones key lol
you have to literally give it to someone. you cant stop stupid.

Pretty much this. I think the only other person that can POTENTIALLY have my key, if he saved it, is Zeblote. He helped me recover it at some point, i would have had to buy a new one.
