I am helping fix my friends computer over at his house and i am refreshing it because it has forgetloads of viruses, but his screen is broken (laptop) and he uses an external monitor, we are in the process where its supposed to say "3%" done and stuff but it wont switch to the external, will it switch to the external when its done and it wants me to setup the settings?
he uses windows 8 and its a toshiba laptop

if the external doesn't work during the setup it's probably an adapter issue.

if the laptop can't detect the monitor, most likely no it won't work.

i'd just let it sit anyway, i can help you through if you still need it.
