There's also the fact that a bunch of coffins are rigged up with systems so that the inhabitant can alert the outside world if they wake up underground.

Okay that is incredibly freaking me out but is so cool at the same time.

I'm envisioning someone waking up it pitch black barely able to breathe and being like, "Ok wth, where am I??"

The chances of that happening nowadays is incredibly low
you have to be
1. not breathing
2. heart not beating
3. completely unresponsive to any outside stimulation
4. your brain itself not functioning at all

the chances of all 4 of those happening and you not being dead is astronomically low, I'd wager it's never happened in the last 20 years unless someone seriously forgeted up their diagnosis.
