Author Topic: Might of clicked a phishing link (kinda)  (Read 611 times)

So 2 people posted the same message on my profile. I right clicked one and clicked "view source" it came up with a .tmp in notepad. I'm no technical genius, but will this RAT or infect me? Hopefully not

The phishers:

(censored the links)

The file name:

(circled the .tmp when I bet it should be .txt)

Just don't open it, get rid of it.

All i did was right click the link and clicked "view source" not sure if that would count as opening

HI GUYS, I CANT SEEM TO ADD YOU, PLZ ADD ME ON THIS LINK SO I CAN GIEF U FREE BURNING TEEM CAPTAIN

www.streamcrommunity.com/notascam

i don't even think that's the file they linked.

It's a .tmp file because your computer has dumped it in your temp folder so you can view it. Is the content of it all gibberish and unknown characters? If so, then it's probably a binary file (most likely a program meant to infect you). Either way, you'd only be infected if the binary file was executed. Opening the file with notepad will not execute it.

You sure? Last time I even downloaded it, but haven't ran it, he was dumb enough to just msg other people right when I noticed it, so I quickly logged off and changed my pass via phone.

still don't recommend opening it tho
