Go into your router firmware by browsing to 192.168.1.1

this is a common mistake people make
why? not all routers use that address.
when i try to go to 192.168.1.1, my browser does this:

however, using my router's actual IP address does this:

so, how do you get your router's address?
right click the wifi symbol in your task bar, and open network and sharing center
then click:

then

and there we have it. your router address is listed next to IPv4 Default Gateway

also if you do that same method for other routers in public and connect to the address via your URL bar, you can do sneaky stuff, provided it's not secure ;)
