these are all very good, but it raises a few more questions and similarities
in this case i'd like to present the sly cooper theory, and the fact that there are numerous similarities to atrocities and warcrimes committed then and now by some of the worst.

if you have played the game, you should be familiar with the following;
1. even though he and his friends always say they're together, sly cooper does take the lead. what would you think this could lead the gang to think and soon take action about?
2. he is hunted by a fox. now this is normal for the sly cooper series, as the fox cop carmelita lady continuously chases sly down while also breaking some actual police procedures. but do you know who else is a fox and constantly chases & harasses the protagonist? swiper.

what kind of conflict do you think this could cause between the two?
3. sly cooper's gang also shows a sort of hiearchy, as it can be seen and heard, sly cooper being at the top of it. cooper's friends at points are even willing to get themselves hurt in order to keep their leader safe.
4. there is nearly no law enforcement in the game unless sly does something. could this mean that the game takes place in a near post-apocalyptic future, or possibly even in maybe the same timeline as the rats? the setting of the rats area appears to be near present times, as there is even a car. but all of the terrain is rugged and destroyed, and humans now reside in what looks like centuries old architecture, with handmade bridges leading to it.
4.5. police departments can be found in certain areas of levels/cities, but none are in use, and the only people out on the streets are thug-like animals under the control of their superiors. there is a very obvious hiearchy too, with every 'boss' of a level even exclaiming how they're the leader of their guards. this could also mean everybody dictates over their cities after rising up and violently taking over.
5. the contessa, a spider woman, also rules one of the levels with a clear iron fist. she is capable of even commanding large armored divisions to patrol around her occupied lands, as pictured below.

this could be compared with
1984, by george orwell, as in the levels tanks are allowed to shoot anything they see outside at will. and there's nobody complaining about it, or trying to act against it, because everybody who attempted to resist has either been locked away or killed by contessa's employees, or are brainwashed by a mindwiping machine she has found. there is even a level in the game where she tortures prisoners with sound devices. (the one where you have to free one of your incarcerated friends)
there is some contesting between the leaders of occupied cities, and some even cooperate with what corrupted officers they can.
