How do I make my avatars not so pixelated when I crop them.

Yeah, I have done a few methods to try and not make it pixelated and in GIMP it looks fine but once I upload it gets pixelated at the edges. This has annoyed me for awhile and I just need a way to make it smoother.

Maybe Image > Mode > RGB?
If it's indexed it won't have smooth edges.

Oh my god, I am facepalming through my skull. I was saving it as a .GIF and it'd automatically go to indexed so I changed it to .PNG
