Author Topic: Need Help With Present Ideas  (Read 410 times)

My 21st is coming up, and it's a chance for me to catch up with my friends and try get some new tech I'm missing out on. I've got until Saturday morning to pass on gift ideas to my Dad. A couple of things:

  • I can't get games or LEGO; apparently they're not "21st" enough
  • Gotta be under $3000
  • I don't need a laptop or computer or any computer accessories; I'm covered
  • Has to be available at retail in Australia
  • I need at least 3 suggestions, maybe more

Here's the things I'm currently thinking of, but I really need help:

  • I want a mobile phone, but I don't understand them at all. I want it to be fast (I absolutely hate things that lag), have a decent capacity (hard-drive space), a high quality camera which I can use to take very detailed images of my whiteboard brainstorms (usually with a very thing pen marker in poor lighting conditions) and it would need to be unlocked. While iOS tends to have more apps I want, it seems like even the iPhone 6 has pretty poor specs compared to some of the Anroid/Windows-based phones.
  • I'm wondering if a PS4 or a Wii U would be more worth it; I really do want a PS4 down the road for Ratchet & Clank, but I've heard things from friends that a Wii U apparently has some nice games.
  • I would like a high quality, portable camera (not one of those proper film cameras, but something more like a handheld). I've also been tossing around the idea for a GoPro, and I want to know if that would be worth it for recording a lot of the events I go to.
  • I know absolutely nothing about tablets, but I'm wondering if there's any good options out there for doing quick sketches, taking photos, taking notes and playing games.

If I could get a list of things in those categories with some reasons why they're awesome, that would be fantastic.

Bump because I really need help. If you have any other gift ideas, let me know.

Probably don't need phone suggestions; I'm getting a new one today.
