before trying your email addressyeah but $40 is a lot of money for a domain name
$40 is the hosting with 3 website domains after the $9/yr deal. If I don't feel like paying for it I can just backup my files by downloading them from the site I have them on before the due date.

Namecheap offers actual hosting as well:

This

ok but that would mean anyone who wanted my domain could challenge me for it, and i would immediately lose because i would have provided false information
not immediately
assuming you're using a modern registrar, rather than something stuck in like the 90s, and did register with your real email address, they're going to contact you first, and you'll have a chance to correct it

there's also 000webhost just so you know which is a free web host
its half decent, not the best out there definitely though
at&t has a bone to pick with 000webhost; it blocks most connections to domains that are hosted there, so there goes a chunk of possible userbase if you plan to host a public website through it.

This is the main reason why I have 000webhost out of my choice list, they have many scam/spam/etc websites, that's because it's a free hosting, which cannot be reliable. Hostinger is on the borderline of the choice list. I'm going to go with namecheap.

On the note of false whois data
*cough*pecon.us*cough*

Also found where if you live in the US, you can get charged with a felony if found to have registered false WHOIS data

Weird

I've look at WOT (Web of Trust) for namecheap and it seems to have some pretty bad reviews, but I think every web hosting will have some bad reviews

then don't get a .us domain or have someone else agree to use their information

I wouldn't go with them for hosting, I think you'll find much better hosters. I only use them as a registrar.

Hm, what about BlueHost?

Edit: Changed up topic name, sorry if it confuses anyone.

didn't want to pay an absurd amount of money at the time

I think I'm going with BlueHost.

Unless anyone else has other web hosting ideas. I've been looking at reviews of web hosting and it's hard to tell which web host I should go for.
