Author Topic: I need some help with an extra hdd [SOLVED]  (Read 571 times)

Alright so I pulled this hitachi HTS541612J9SA00 hdd (120 gb) out of a xbox 360 hard drive thing. I have it hooked up and everything. But there is a problem. It does not shot up in file explorer. In task manager it shows up as disk 5 which would be H if it had shown up. Device manager says the is no problem with the drive in details and the property of "has problem" altough most of the properties look normal. The driver is from 2006 and when trying to up date it says the drive is up to date in device manager. (it appears to be the same driver in my main drive)

Help?

you have to assign it a drive letter

Ok when initializing the extra drive should it be MBR or GPT

Open Windows Explorer. Rightclick "My Computer" and click Manage. Open Disk Management. You have all of the tools you need at your disposal.

Yo, initializing a drive will most likely wipe it. MBR is the way to go though.

Since I don't exactly trust piecrust all that much could someone confirm it please?

I'm not telling you to use anything or to wipe system32. I gave you the door to the tools and warned you about initializing. Not trusting in that is a bitch move.

Most HDDs these days are MBR.
GPT I think is for HDDs
MBR stands for Master Boot Record, which gets its name from being the partition that contains the windows boot stuff, hence "Master Boot". HDDs that use MBR are very common and can work with disks up to 2 TB but cant go further.
GPT is designed to replace MBR with something moe modern.
Im not exactly sure how an HDD will work with an Xbox 360 HDD, but I would try MBR first

It's not like opening disk management forgets anything up if ANYONE can just do it with a few clicks.

Thanks for the help, now i need to go buy a usb to sata cable for my dvd drive because forget this tiny motherboard from this prebuilt.
