Author Topic: Talking english to people (or social anxiety/awkwardness bs)  (Read 589 times)

Okay so a while ago me and some friends went to and irish pub after seeing deadpool but I didnt knew it was an irish pub untill my friend told me.
Either way me being stupid ordered in dutch and he didnt understand stuff and he told me hes english
So I was like pro english mode activated n stuff but I could barely talk and I was like super loving awkward. And I said mate after every thing I said. +1 awkward point
The fun thing is when I talk english to my friends or online in general, Hell I even HATE it when someone talks dutch in an english game. I have like a loving master degree online, but when talking to other people I sound like a nigerian with the most broken english and stufftiest accent you have ever heard
Why is this? How can I stop this?
This is really annoying tbh. Even my friend said I was awkward af.

Dere is noting rong with sounding like Nigerian, my bradah

Well, speaking, reading, listening to, and writing a language are all different skills in your brain. Being good at one doesn't mean the others will be just as easy if you don't practice often enough.

Practice speaking English more, with friends and family.
You're obviously just not confident/fluent in the spoken language.

Friends is fine
Family is fine
Talking in online games is fan

Stranger... Critical error...

sounds to me like you have more social anxiety than problems speaking english

Confidence is key.
How are you when speaking to strangers in dutch? Obviously you know your words, but would you say you can just jump straight into a conversation, or are you still nervous?

Is there an English/MFL club at your school? Getting to speak with strangers and practice roleplays is good.
Obviously when you're ordering at a restaurant or a bar, or meeting someone new, you say different things compared to chatting with friends/family.

Ultimately, it still just comes down to practice.

Well
I dont meet strangers since im a shut in. Wich is sad.
And there arent clubs at my school.
Its just that I am not socially capable. Wich is very sad. I mean how does one start a conversation. When I try it I get a high pitched voice wich I cant even imitate again because my voice is so low and I say it with either a stupid accent or in a stupid way somehow.
Like what

I mean even on this online forum I make a fool out of myself most of the time

Maybe its because I look like a total idiot with my stuffty bowlcut I never take care of unless I go out on one of the days. I mean I really look like a 13 year old moron who wants to be cool n stuff drinking beer.

if you don't like it change it bruh

Same happens to me. I can talk to you with a godly spanish and italian accent. If I speak in english, my accent is stuff and yet I write correctly and have a pretty high grade in english. I'm just not used to speaking in languages other than my own.

its in my genes
