ok so they aren't necessarily work boots I'm guessing.  Average life span of a pair of work boots is around 3 years at most.  Our work boots are factory made of course but they are still very tough.  I've worked out of my current pair for nearly three years and they are just now splitting between the sidewall and the sole.  And no, I don't wash with soap and buff and rinse mine. In fact all I've ever done to them is spray them with a water hose.  But then again they do serve a different purpose.

Yes.  They're a modest, soft-ish pair of dress boots, very dark brown.  12 or more inches up the leg, I think.

The only thing that you can do to prevent the sidewall splitting from the sole is, well, nothing.
Nothing except making sure the boots are handmade with careful attention to detail.  What spit'n'polish and buffing does is repair the leather itself, not the points of connection.

You could always try your hand at sewing, if that's one of the things connecting the boot to the sole.  You may want to forego a harsh hose for soapy water and elbow grease.

they have lasted me plenty long enough to say I've got my money's worth out of them.  Work boots aren't really worth it when it comes to washing them with soap and water, because no matter what they are gonna get covered in oil grease and mud the very next day.  That's why I've never put boot oil on these, because they get plenty of oil on them anyways.  Learning to sew isn't really worth it either because I would only be seeing once every three or so years.  Care taking isn't quite as serious for work boots as it is for dress boots.

ya i see black chuck 2 highs being more versatile than p much any boot

I have couple pairs of SPERRY boots and I've found them super comfortable.
And if your price range is under/around $100, they're having a summer sale right now and most of them are just around your limit

Ah I see.  I don't have any experience with work boots, so I wouldn't know.  The closest I've come to those is Timberland's walking boots and those army boots I got from ebay.

I've worn these for two years now and barely show wear. I've waded through streams, walk at least 20 miles a day, walked through snow, etc in these tanks
