So, tomorrow I leave for basic training. My training is going to last until November where I'll have a few days off and then I'll beginning AIT (Advanced Individual Training) for my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). All the soldiers get sent home for the holidays because the bases shut down. After that I'll be at AIT until April when I'll graduate.

this is not true, at least in my case.
you should get HBL (holiday block-leave) but if you can't afford the plane flight back, you stay with them at the base
