Author Topic: Computer issue: Missing Disk  (Read 593 times)

Hey guys, I need some help. Yesterday, I was playing blockland, just like any other day, when I accidentally changed the refresh rate and set it wrong, so my screen said Out Of Range. The computer just worked fine, it was only the game since I could click on the options at the main screen on blockland. When I restarted the computer since I couldnt get out the Out of range screen, I went to start steam again. and then BAM. the disk where most of my stuff (I have got two disks, one for system and other files stuff, and other, wich is bigger for videogames and stuff) was missing. I went to "System" tab to check, and it was gone. I have googled help and they all said go to Control Panel->System security->Administrative tools->System administration->Storage-> Disk administration, and from there, look for my disk and asign it a letter that isnt used. I did that, but it didnt let me do the letter thingy. It only lets me create a new simple volume, see properties, help, convert into dinamic disk, convert into GPT disk, no connection, and see properties and help. Thats all I can do, and the bar over the space and assign stuff (it says it isnt assigned, yet I cant assign it) is in black. Need help, since there I also had some files since Im moving to another house...

can your HD be pulled and checked as backup on another comp?
to save your files*

reformat

Now that sounds bad. Isnt there any other alternative? I guess that the only important thing there is steam stuff and the moving files, the rest are phisical disk games...

it sounds like you were digging around in the right areas to fix it.
technically its probably possible i just dont have any ideas.

i'm trying to post the solution but cloudflare is not letting me post certain commands.
I'll try and PM you, do not reformat.

EDIT: ok so cloudflare just wont let me write this anywhere on the forums. It probably thinks I'm trying to get into blf databases lol.

try using some canned air in the RAm slots, or HD slot.

This happened to my boss yesterday and it turned out to be the CPU.  I small piece of lint got into the block and prevented it from working.

I did what you told me until select volume. All it shows me are the 100mbs-reserved-system thing, the main one (C:) and the DVD-Rom ones, yet it identifies the disk.

type in list partition, can you find it there?

edit: so you can see it on disk administration but it's not there in the volume list? Make sure you're not confusing the letters or anything, it should be there if its on disk administration.

It says it doesnt find any partitions on this disk. Actually, its a separate disk, not a partition.
By the way, thanks for your help :D

So does disk administration show the disk on there? If it does, it should be listed when you type list volume.

I have read somewhere that it maybe doesnt have volume or something. Is that possible?

I'm still confused as to what is happening here. Is it showing up on disk administration? if it is then it definitely has a volume and it definitely should show up on diskpart
