Maybe the bricks are made of glue, so they can just squish together. Like, if you've ever let glue dry on something, it's like plastic.

or we just weld the bricks together, which is why we're using lasers to put bricks together

They magically stick, but only on studded areas. Trying to stick bricks to smooth surfaces and succeeding results in the government recruiting you and other scientists at Area 51 to create a tool to do so, then release it to the public under an alias.
