Author Topic: Anyone remember Blockland Turmoil?  (Read 2076 times)

It was a cool Half-Life-ish gamemode! You began in a broken tutorial which you had to fight through, occasionally finding another blockhead who was playing the tutorial at the time and has access to all tools. After you get through the tutorial's ruins, you discover that Badspot has been kidnapped by someone and you are the only one who can do anything about it!

If that doesn't ring a bell, maybe this will!

I tried it and it was pretty cool, shame it was discontinued

Maybe if I were to remake it?

i didnt know where the gamemode wanted you to go and im pretty sure i accidently sequence skipped half of the entire thing

If you followed a blood trail before you took down a helicopter, you did.

Also, the gamemode obviously wanted you to escape the tutorial from the inside.

i jumped over some walls and skipped everything lol

if i remember correctly (this was quite a while ago) i simply ran out of ideas and was taking too long to build. episode two i think would have started you in a spammy red brick land which led to some roblox build and then that led you to some bootleg portal hell which would lead you to a desert area and then the inside of a volcano, where i would make up more of the build as i went. i recall my favorite part being the desert area because it looked nice and had a little pipe puzzle with keys. sadly, that save was lost and i dont remember how. also i just checked the link in the topic and it looks like it was deleted. i dont have the file anymore so it looks like you're going to have to ask around for it if people still have it. :/ also could do an edit to its gamemode.txt to remove the music because that's probably lost.

quite honestly, it was getting disorganised and i was not enjoying building it. i remember starting multiple remakes and losing interest, doing many revival projects and losing interest, and i think i even make some forum adventure thing just to try to suck some ideas out and i ended up abandoning that when it still only had one page i think. i ended up scrapping and forgetting about the entire thing because i felt that the effort it was taking wasnt worth only a few people seeing it. though i probably should have continued as it was one of the very few singleplayer campaigns/adventures for the game, even though the gamemode system is perfectly set up for that.

i could tell what i remember of the remakes/revivals:
- one remade the build and changed the setting to some post apocalyptic thing and coverted the tutorial into some kind of advanced puzzle thing like from portal. ended up being too ambitious and taking too much effort. i dont think i even finished making the tutorial segment before i stopped.
- in a revival project i had completely removed that time puzzle thing where the colors changed to black and white etc in favor of featuring acm city. i wanted it to be some camp for refugees of some disaster or something. i still hadnt thought about the story too much but thats probably what gave the thing its charm anyway, after that i started making some big water cliff area that you had to walk the side on. i think i simply lost interest in this one. i think there was a topic of this one in creativity.
- the last remake project was a complete rebuild to make the build look nicer, no real thematic changes just making the build make more sense. i remember ditching that weird well thing for a cave next to the tutorial that led to a broken car tunnel which led to the next area that the well would have taken you. i think i stopped while making the second outdoor area. there should be a creativity topic for this one too.

i think if i were to try to revive this again, it would be a complete remake, probably ditch the music to make it more plug and play, and use what i now know about scripting to try to improve the experience. also that new duplicator would help a whole lot, thats an amazing tool.

also just some updates on me, idk if people would like to know but i used to be known as crispy, now my ingame name is piber20. i was also having a problem with bluescreens, blockland, and steam but i found my main key luckily and plopped that in a non-steam blockland installation and all's better now. there's also two other keys associated with my ip/me i think, one is used very commonly by my brother, and i recently let my sister play with the other one as i didnt need it after finding my main key. just know that if you see a crispy, their blid is not 3300 and that means its not me. my alt which is in use by my sister still has the name crispy as i type but she may change it in the future so just know that if you see crispy its not me. also if you see crispy anywhere in the internet its probably not me either as that's a very common username and why i changed mine.

also this is a call for help: is there any documentation for blockland that would help me know what functions exist and what they do because my only sources are other add-ons and what functions i know came from copying and pasting from these add-ons, and playing with it. also now knowing that lol would you guys be interested in me posting my add-ons on this forum again? my website gets like no views and neither does the blockland nexusmods site.

anyway, have a good day you guys. :cookie:

thank you, that helps a lot.
