Author Topic: U.S. to relinquish internet oversight, last-minute lawsuit ditched [HAPPY NEW YE  (Read 2021 times)

this is a kind of topic where alarmists take it up to forget everything up

no, nothing will happen to you. commies won't take away our freedom of speech and our domain names.

what if russia blocks blockland download
what do we do

in reality, this probably won't affect anyone, but if ICANN decides to be a richardhead then yes, it can affect everyone

expect the worst for the hell of it

it isnt literal "control of the internet". its more of our government protecting our freedom of speech and freedom of access to information to the people
actualy, ur an idiot. no surprise there
the united states government does not have control of the internet, period. we can't protect freedom of speech or access to information for the entire internet, because we literally do not have that kind of power. the only "control" we have over it is what is done within the country. we have no more or less control over the internet than china does, or russia, or iran
enforce ICANN
the fact that you said this phrase really shows you little you know about this
ICANN isn't/won't be bound by the first amendment, which can be troubling
actually, it isn't anyway! ICANN doesn't even allow people to register domain names directly. instead, they give certain companies the power to do so. these companies aren't required to allow you to register domain names they don't want you to register. the first amendment does not apply. so yea, please, stop spreading ridiculous fearmongering bs

literally the worst case scenario is that everyone who cares has to migrate to a new domain name system. this is trivial. you can already change your DNS server within the settings for whatever operating system you use. if ICANN starts acting up, you can rest assured someone will create a replacement, which will only take 60 seconds for you to swap over to
best case scenario is that ICANN becomes actually decent, and no longer allows registrars to charge crazy yearly fees to non-business registrants. of course, that's a pipe dream, because money rules the world, and all
