what happened to downloading add ons ingame?

i considered putting this in the help category but its just more of a question out of curiosity and not really something i need assistance with, let me know if im wrong about that though

so i got into playing this again about a month ago after like 3-4 years and i remember that back then, when you went to someones server and downloaded all their files, you actually got the add ons that were on their server and they were put into YOUR add ons folder and you could use them on your own server. ive noticed that this isnt how it works anymore; it looks like you need to get all of your add ons from the forums now. was that like an rtb thing and now that rtb is gone that is too, or was it just a function that was taken out after some random update? or maybe this is still a thing you can do and i just have to screw around with the options a bit more.

that was an RTB thing; at the time practically everyone used RTB so it worked on pretty much every server.

There's a still-in-development-but-mostly-working remake called Blockland Glass, which you can find here:

It has the IRC and friend system, and an ingame addon-downloader, but it's not as polished as RTB was, yet.
