from what i've gathered from both watching this happen live from the very beginning and reading further news stories, combetta asked reddit a day after the email preservation was ordered. he was asked about who the VIP was, and in his post, combetta said something along the lines of 'they're a prominent figure, if i mentioned them you'd definitely recognize them, so i'd prefer to keep their anonymity'
skip ahead two years later, these posts have been found overnight & put up by somebody on twitter. it began to spread in popularity like wildfire, discovering different (rather inapproriate) sites of his, and some questionable posts under the name of 'stonetear'. it had all added up, though, the stonetear account on reddit having mentions of the same town & state (rhode island) paul combetta had lived in, and other technical posts
after people had archived almost all of his posts and getting screencaps, in an attempt to remove what's left of evidence (far too late by then), he began to mass delete all of his reddit posts (see 0:41 on the video i linked at the start of the thread)

DATES MATCH. This post was from JULY 20 2014. Summer Cheryl Mills is tipped off by State Department that there was an investigator into Hillary's email. In the FBI REPORT it says in July 2014 Cheryl Mills ordered Plate River employees to change email retention policy. July 2014 is a key month in this whole mess.
