You really wanna go with the FX 9000 series...? I mean, its old and needs a nuclear power plant to power it and puts out as much heat as one but whatever that's your choice man

what would you swap it with?

Any modern day i5 (or i7 if you plan on video editing). If you wanna stick with AMD, just wait for Zen which is right around the corner.
Plus, do you have an SSD? Also, what resolution do you plan on using?

just a hdd, ssd is a little bit pricey for my budget right now, was gonna save for that next

well heres a pretty good build, wont get you a 980, but is still pretty solid if you plan on doing 1080p

first off switch the GPU from a gtx 980 to a gtx 1070. It has the same price as that 980 and has MUCH better performance

Also switch from AMD to Intel if you can, you should get much much better performance out of it, for the same price, and it's more upgrade-able

Here's some suggestions on the cpu and new mobo

Intel i5 with a Cooler Master 212 EVO for $227 at the moment.

MSI B150 Skylake 1151 socket motherboard, 109.99 at the moment.

Kingston 1x8gb HyperX memory, 2133 mhz ddr4, 47.99 at the moment

If you want a build for overclocking, go with Willco

Here's a link to the list I re-made. You won't be able to Overclock but you should have much better performance, along with being 20 dollars less
