Author Topic: What do new websites have that older ones didn't?  (Read 2060 times)

It mostly has to do with what the average internet speed of that time was. Website builders built for speed. Cant do much when your high res banner wont load for 80% of the consumer market.

Luckily, we dont have to worry about that as much today. We can use as many fancy effects as we want.

Yes, luckily, but also unfortunate in a sense, because people tend to abuse it.

They sometimes have those footers that you can never see because as you scroll down the page it loads more content! :iceCream:

which, in turn, makes "nicer" looking websites.

i think the canvas is a blessing, it allows you to create in-browser games like agar.io, which while looked down upon, gives a lot of people some good, quick games to play.

i'm gonna use this opportunity to plug my friend because he does a lot of neat web stuff that's relevant to the topic at hand
http://torcado.com/

it's fancy but functional and fairly intuitive and i think that's pretty neat

this dude is definitely a furry and I'm guessing he's gay
also I don't like it, cus it prioritizes being fancy over being usable. the entire about bit, for instance, is tilted. there is no way to change it. I don't particularly like having to tilt my head sideways to read a web page. not to mention the high contrast text and distracting color changes. I can't even begin to imagine how many other accessibility problems it has
it's neat. and hiring this guy to make a pretentious arty website that doesn't really concern itself with anyone actually using it, might be a good idea. anything else? I dunno. maybe he's capable of making a usable site, the kind that companies making an actual product out of the website have to have, but this page doesn't tell you that
