UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced plans to call a snap general election on 8 June. She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum. Explaining the decision, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not."

Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said his Labour Party wanted the election, calling it a chance to get a government that puts "the majority first".

There will be a vote in the House of Commons on Wednesday to approve the election plan - the prime minister needs two thirds of MPs to vote in favour to bring forward the next scheduled election date of 2020. Explaining her change of heart on an early election, Mrs May said: "I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election."

Parliment and the government as a whole were saying "We need to leave the EU" after the vote is passed and the UK now begins leaving the EU, all these politicians don't have a clue at what they are doing especially Nigel Farage who is a liar and a complete idiot. I'm not saying the vote should have been passed and that the UK shouldn't have left the EU as I myself wanted to leave. But these politicians are useless and that's how it's been ever since Thatcher left parliment. The government of this country has been scrunched up and thrown into a bin

I doubt it. Labour's gonna get blown out because of the infighting between Corbyn and the PLP.

Labour is left-wing pro EU (excluding Jeremy). Liberal Democrafts is left-wing pro EU. Green is left-wing pro EU. SNP is left-wing pro EU.

If I were left-wing and anti-EU, I'd consider this election a failure.
