Author Topic: is windows defender actually better than norton  (Read 1790 times)

Common sense is the best anti virus
as much as i hate this poster's opinions this is an extreme exception, i agree 100%
The best Antivirus is common se-
I'd say don't run an AV unless you're a beginner or if you're paranoid

Also, to put into context why thinking this is a /really bad idea/, allow me to state a similar argument in similar terms:
"I don't need vaccines! I have common sense, I won't get sick!"
In conjunction with an antivirus it's decent, sure, but don't trust your sense to save you.

viruses or malware stuff can come outta nowhere even when youre being careful
much better safe than sorry, keep it on low at the least

Despite what people say about avg, its still a handy little program that blocks adware. That's the only thing i get actually, i never experience any major attacks unless i know im going somewhere/downloading something sketchy. Even then if i do find myself in a situation where i have contracted a virus, avg is quick to isolate and quarantine.

i use Bitdefender tbh but i dunno if its good thats just what my dad recommends, and he works with security stuff so i'd like to think his choice is good

i scan with virustotal when i download some file that seems sketchy

Common sense is the best anti virus
Malwarebytes is second best

Norton is stuff and bloatware.
Windows defende is stuff but actually isnt annoying
mb isn't really a antivirus program, it's generally good practice to have antivirus software and mb installed. mb is good at filling in the holes for antivirus programs and detecting new malware. common sense can't stop everything, trusted vendors can be compromised and you could unknowingly download a corrupted file or be redirected to a malicious site.

ot: nortons p stuff. i don't know how good windows defender actually is, but it's not as annoying as norton. kaespersky isn't bad and pretty low resource, bit defender, and most your mainstream av programs are p effective (avg, avast) although might be a little intrusive with upgrade messages and all that

i put a condom on my ethernet cable and i haven't gotten any viruses

windows defender (windows 8 and above) is pretty much microsoft's newer microsoft security essentials, which from what i've seen is a decent, average anti-virus. however, assuming you're talking about that ransomware that's been hyped up and fearmongered when you talk about the 'current virus going around', if you installed the latest impotrant updates on either windows 7/8/8.1/10, you should be okay.

Ahw c'mon babe, dont be like that.
