"new" button issue?

usually when you press the "new" button on a topic, it'll take you to the most recent post. for some reason, at least for me, it doesn't always do that and will take me to a random place within the topic. anyone else having this issue?

it doesn't take you to the most recent post, it takes you to the post right after the one you last read
e.g. you read a topic yesterday and it's on page 18 halfway down, the next day you haven't read past that yet so when you click the button it'll still be 18 halfway down as opposed to the last post
although the tag for that among other things have been buggy since the forums switched to https, but steve made a fix for that that i can't be assed to find
