Last semester I spent about $800 on books + online access to lame homework sites. Luckily the online stuff rolls over to this semester so I only need to drop $250 on new books now.
We're this far in to the internet's history that there are bound to be copies of your books online in some form somewhere, and if not, it's not hard to borrow a book and scan all the pages and make your own "book" online.
only problem with this is technically it's copyright infringement (probably nobody cares though). also my chem textbook is 1200 pages so I don't think anybody wants to scan that stuff lol
