Can I just buy an xlr to 3.5mm cable and plug it in or do I need some other stuff for that?

you need an amp/pre-amp, or a mixerboard with phantom power 24v/48v

Alright so if I buy a phantom psu and hook that up to my motherboard
Will that work or do I still need some soundcard thing?

if you dont care about adjusting volume with a mixer board or a proper preamp
then stick the output into the soundcerd
and there you go

- Its literally in the name that its a phantom psu
- Its in the category of phantom psu's on amazon
- A mixer board is some stuff that studios use to mix multiple audio inputs and whatsnot and is expensive as stuff

You’re gonna get a terrible noise floor by using a mic into a card plugged into your mobo. You really should have a digital audio interface like a Scarlet 2i2 or something. Those will have 48v built into a button. Plus, I almost don’t believe that an XLR input would fit on a PCIe card, does your sound card even have XLR?

what are you going to be using this for? you shouldn't be buying a condenser mic for just talking to people as the setup and costs is far higher then just getting a typical microphone

I got myself a podcast micro with a usb interface instead.
Sound is not as good as the other one but ill take it. Its still a condensator which is nice.
