maybe the stress of finding an internship, doing school assignments, and preparing for exams has gotten me a bit overwhelmed but i've been day dreaming about daily life of a park ranger, (i prefer the dutch term "forestguard" or Guardian Of The Forest).
here are the points i have made in my head why this would in theory be a good idea:
- i would make the same wage in a less competitive environment
- the work stress of game development is incomparable (the news has been on fire lately about over worked employees)
- despite digital art/game art being a creative skill (3d modeling, drawing), a lot of employers ask for a higher education thats traditionally suited for studies that are more theoretical. FOREST GUARDIAN doesnt ask this typically
- part of the job is being in a forest and keeping track of it's flora and fauna
- part of the job is explaining cool things about that forest's flora and fauna to people
- doing art could become a hobby again instead of a career which means less burnouts
there are some options to do volunteerwork maybe that might be a good place to start, i dont really want to reschool (expensive). will seriously look into this after my current study
the job does have cons though as since 1996 they are no longer actual authority, they can do as much as giving tickets for small crimes like campfires/littering/camping/illegal vehicles/hunting. there are a couple of cases of hunters assaulting rangers
