Author Topic: Forum activity & the impact of AI/bots  (Read 2446 times)

Around last August I compiled the stats from here into Excel to visualize the activity of the forums. I'm only posting it now because I was lazy.

I've also added some markers to correlate activity with notable events in both the game's and forum's history.

Foxscotch did the same thing not too long ago but with higher granularity that I think is more than worth sharing:

I wish I knew the financial impact that post-2023 has on the forums but I doubt Badspot will ever share that. My current estimate is at least $1/mo but no more than 7 quintillion USD/mo.

this is neat. good work.

really interesting, thank you for sharing this

The thought of LLMs being trained off Blockland Forums posts is a surreal one. Thank you

Anyone else excited for the locally hosted Blockland Forums where you can stuff post for eternity once this place goes down? Even includes a slider for whatever year you'd like to post in.

wonder if the content from this forum ever got broadly flagged as toxic for the purposes of training ai what is and isnt toxic

nahh I doubt it bro, they got all of 4chan and reddit for that. more commonly nowadays tiktok and yt shorts. tho it's had it's wild moments, BL forums is relatively tame compared to the rest of the internet...

It helps that we have mods that at the very least keep research and illegal things off the site. I don't think people being called a naysayer or told to "yiff in hell furcigarette" is enough to flag us as toxic, anyway.

Kiwifarms sorta came from here, it's kinda an extension of the drama board, I'd assume that would get the BLF flagged... along with the fact we had a honor student from here AND he posted on kiwifarms as well.

I 100% assume this place is watched.

Probably. Sentiment brown townysis neural networks have been around for quite a while- longer than LLMs.
