I get that the game is free. But now my question is...
What is the point of this game? What do we do in it?

There is no 'point' or storyline as such. You simply run around killing and jailing people. The whole game is based on it's community and what reputation you have. There are also a few records to beat such as different races dotted around the map.

So the game is basically to hang out and live in a village?

It's basically like you're playing house but with an extremely dysfunctional family.
