A lot of people gave useless feedback and I would say it's safe to ignore them Pheonix.
If you want a house to look more like a house, and not like a box, try making different shapes of an even size.
Use print's for flooring, and if you need to build something on top of the flooring, use a brick of the same color and build on top of it. Prints will give any furniture a more sleek and sophisticated look.
When building the exterior of the house, keep in mind that the interior wall needs to be a different color from the exterior, otherwise the interior looks dull and shows little effort for design.
Furniture can be tricky to build, practice making at least 3 types of a piece of furniture and see what you like in each of them, then try to combine all features and I think you'll come out with a satisfying chair, table, etc.
You don't need to do this if you know exactly how you want it to look.
A well orchestrated yard will compliment your house, and actually make it seem a lot more nice than it actually is. Remember, most houses have a driveway, a yard, a backyard. All separated by fencing.
Don't be afraid to use the special bricks, if used correctly you can make the standard window look quite nice, same with the tree.
A single home should always have a garage, I don't recall seeing one.
Anyways I'm finished giving out building tips. Take all of this into consideration and maybe you'll end up with something much nicer.
