Help With Mission Editor

ok, I know, I know, a million times this has been asked, right?
but every reply in every one of those threads is either "You're a noob so don't bother" (or along those lines) or "unzip/extract the folder"
so I unzip the folder and have all these .dts files that windows won't recognize.
So tell me, is there a certain file I need, certain program, or am I just doing something wrong?

Put zip file in addons folder. Add " -mod editor" to the end of the target bot in the properties box for the shortcut. Leave out the quotation marks.
