Author Topic: New Soundcard  (Read 995 times)

Hey all, I was just wondering, do I need a new soundcard, or for that matter, a soundcard?

Here's my motherboard and speaker specs:

GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Logitech G51 155 watts RMS 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers - Retail

I don't hear bad sound, but is the onboard good enough? Its a cheap MB.

on-board sound isn't as bad as it use to be.
anything that supports surround sound will be fine.

so that board and speaker set is fine

music can only get as good as your speakers anyway. so unless you spend 400+ on them (and you shouldn't lol) it will never matter what sound card you have.

the only real sound technology to follow right now, at least for gamers, is how many sound effects can be played at once.
older cards max out at like 64, better ones at 256. but that many can be spammy and not even used by games lol.
have your games render sound with hardware instead of software

I got a lovely 4.1 sound system for $50 and it's still running loud and proud. It was supposed to be for gaming consoles, but I made it work for PC. Not too difficult really.
