It's the name of the model.

The "a" indicates it has an AMD CPU socket.

Neither. Stick with a simpler board.

P45 chipset from Gigabyte is my personal recommendation. ASUS also makes quality boards. P43 works too.

If you really must get the 750 chipset (or any SLI chipset for that matter) then get the intel version (750i). EVGA being the preferable brand.
