Dead servers mean they've shut down or they haven't forwarded their ports

It's hard to explain, but if you forward your ports, you can host an online game

Basically a router blocks anything trying to connect (Firewall), for your safety. You have to open up some ports to allow people to connect.

Check the help section of the fourms for info on ports and port forwarding.

Also sometimes servers appear to be dead when just starting up(or at least mine does)
