Author Topic: Operating system standards  (Read 986 times)

This was always bugged me. Is there some way to make a standard that all operating systems can utilize, and any program can run in? Even if operating systems are too different to make everything run everywhere, can't they use an external environment that runs over the OS that allows anything to run? This has always irked me. Now please go and shoot down my idea, I wish to see where I'm horrible wrong.

Trudat, but I wonder if its at all possible? I'm a giant fan of standardization. That's why I hate Apple and Microsoft.

But Ubuntu rarely works with my wifi drivers :(

I agree with you, but there operating systems are so rooted that it would be hard to change anything. Much less standardize it.

Also, the biggest form of non-standardization is the Blue-Ray movie format. Some look like total crap, some look great, some players support features, some don't, some have to LOAD DISKS some take a lot less time. It's a mess and i hope Sony sorts it out. Or someone. It's THEIR format after all.

Good point. I jsut wish that people would get together and make everything work together. I swear, if I could, I would remake society on the moon, and restart completely.

So far I have discovered that to make massive ammounts of money you have to spit on standards, then try to kill them. Failing that, you make everything else you've ever made incombatable with something you jsut made, making yourself not even comply to your own standards.

loving .DOCX Use Opendocument please. Its smaller (like a tenth the size), contains more stuff, and is free for anyone to use.

I used to like microsoft. But when they released .DOCX, They can go die in a hole. Also the get the facts thing made me want to kill them. If I don't stop now I'll go into a giant rant. So lefts not stop, and I'll increase my WPM, eh?

Think of it this way. You have two options. One is two use soemthing that only your product can use. The other is too use something you don't even need to make sure it doesn't ahve bugs, someone else does. But anyone can open it anywhere. Although even likes the second choice, instead they do the first, as it forces people to buy their product. Motherloving money. The perfect society wouldn't need money, at least not in the way we do it. Money is to restrictive. Instead of doing good things, better things, we do other because we want to mulah. Will post more later then I get bored enough.

.DOCX screwed over my school's little teacher page thing they have set up. Not everyone has the new office, there fore not everyone can open DOCX's
