Author Topic: is port forwarding able to cause viruses?  (Read 492 times)

my dad says if i port forward and get a virus "because port forwarding is allowing people onto you computer"...so will it cause a virus or not?

No, port forwarding itself doesn't cause a virus.

And it is very unlikely to get a virus, unless you fail at internet.

what...?

Since your only suppose to forward your ports for Blockland, you won't get any viruses. Simple as that.

Port forwarding doesn't disable any protection, it just controls traffic.

wait, didn't this come up before with a different person?

Your father's not very bright, and sounding like he's arrogant. Opening ports allows people to connect to programs using the ports, it does not allow them to upload files.

You're more likely to get a virus while casually browsing the internet than you are by opening a port.
