Author Topic: Retail Blockland interview from Mocheeze!  (Read 2809 times)

Had a lot of fun with this interview, but some things HAD to be cut...  :cookieMonster:
dUMBELLS: I'm going to start by asking you some questions about the release date

Mocheeze: Sure.
dUMBELLS: Do you think that Badspot will have a final product by that time?
Mocheeze: I honestly can't say, but I'm hopeful that he'll be able to make that deadline. He seems to be taking the possibility of a delay in stride though, haha. Like he said, there was a time when he told everyone it would be released in 2005 for sure. :P
dUMBELLS: Did you expect the release date to be around Febuary 2007?
Mocheeze: I honestly expected it to be out in mid-December. I thought the Christmas market would be a huge boon for retail, but I guess that just wasn't possible with everything Badspot still wants to add.
dUMBELLS: Which is a good thing? If he had it out now then it probably would be incomplete?
Mocheeze: Well, I'd just say it wouldn't be AS complete as the February version.
dUMBELLS: Now I'm going to ask questions about the actual game, if I just planted a brick what are all the possible ways that I can change it?
Mocheeze: Well, I'm going to try and do this from memory, since the beta servers if off right now.
dUMBELLS: Alright, go ahead.
Mocheeze: You can paint it with tons of colors, including transparency. You can add paint effects that make bricks shine, wobble, flash, glow, etc. You can add particle effects coming off the bricks like fog, fire, laser beams, waterfalls, bubbles, and more that I can't remember. Also you can point those effects in any direction you want (North, South, East, West, Up, Down). You can add lights to the bricks like a regular white lights, bright lights, blinking lights, color cycling lights, and others that vary on those themes. You can attach weapon and tool spawns to every brick (and make them part of a minigame). You can add music to music bricks. You can make vehicle spawn bricks that give you vehicles on top of them (which you can also make part of a minigame). You can also build on bricks as well. I might be forgetting something, but that's pretty much the gist of it.
dUMBELLS: You can also create a welding effect by applying a blank decal to all of the bricks in your build, right?
Mocheeze: Oh right, I totally forgot about decals. Yeah, the decal bricks don't have edges I think, so if you don't put a decal on one of them, that brick face just looks continuous. You can also just edit the textures of your bricks if it bothers you that much anyway.
dUMBELLS: So you can save builds as a client, as mentioned in another interview. Can you load these builds into your server?
Mocheeze: You can load builds anywhere that you are an admin.
dUMBELLS: What would happen if you loaded it into a different map?
Mocheeze: Right now when we do that it just loads the bricks where they'd normally be if it WAS the correct map. So they're pretty much floating everywhere they shouldn't be. I think Badspot said he plans to get rid of that though.
dUMBELLS: At this stage of development, you've been able to access more menus, right?
Mocheeze: I suppose, yes.
dUMBELLS: Have any of them improved, such as the server menu?
Mocheeze: Yeah, the server menu definitely has. I don't know how final it is though since we're not allowed to host our own servers in the beta. You can set your port, brick limit, max bricks/sec, random brick coloring by default, allow color loading, max chat length, flood protection, e-tard filter, curse filters, falling damage, max vehicles per player and the server, max lights per vehicle and the server, max emitters per player and server, enable and disable individual music files, enable and disable addons, choose between single player, lan or internet, give your server name and password along with admin and super admin passes, and the max players.
Mocheeze: Oh, and the map.
dUMBELLS: Curse fitlers? Does it work on names too?
dUMBELLS: Or have you not tried yet
Mocheeze: No idea. I've never tried an offensive name with the curse filter on.
dUMBELLS: I'd probably make Blockhead turn into Noob if so.
dUMBELLS: lol
Mocheeze: Haha, good plan. :)
dUMBELLS: Since our last interview, has the appearance menu changed?
Mocheeze: I think it's still about the same. You can color every part of your body individually, and have clan tags, along with a randomizer for you appearance too. It's fun to see what the randomizer comes up with sometimes.
dUMBELLS: Have you've been granted admin yet? If so how do you think the commands balance out?
dUMBELLS: For the admin menu
Mocheeze: Everyone that's played the beta gets admin access right now. I think the admin commands are pretty balanced. I think Wedge went into detail about all the options in the last interview, so I won't repeat everything he said.
dUMBELLS: What version of Retail Blockland is Badspot on now?
Mocheeze: 27.
dUMBELLS: What are some features that he has kept in and taken out?
Mocheeze: I don't think he's taken anything out at all. Only improvements.
dUMBELLS: Do you still think that there is a lot to see when we buy it even though we know so much?
Mocheeze: You can't really feel how much better the game is until you actually play it for yourself. I can never go back to playing v0002, no matter how good the mods are. I'm sure there will be a good demo available for the game that everyone can play, so you guys will all be able to see for yourselves.
dUMBELLS: Well it's been a good time interviewing you
Mocheeze: Thanks man, it's always fun to do your interviews. I hope I helped. :)

"You can also build on bricks as well"

the best thing he ever added :D

He still has the option of releasing it on Christmas and making patches for it.

If you want to buy an incomplete version of the game that would kill a lot of the hype surrounding it. :P
