Author Topic: XBox live through desktop computer with wireless internet?  (Read 1339 times)

OK, so I live in an apartment, and our friend above us decided to split the bill with us and we can use his wireless internet, and that works fine, I am on a desktop pc with a PCI Wireless card, and it's working fine, but I want xbox live through this, I've tried everything, but nothing works, mwhen I go to test connection on xbox, it fails at network, it says it cant obtain an ip address, how can I fix it without buying the 100$ wireless adapter for xbox?

tl;dr= loving XBOX LIVE WONT loving WORK

If your using windows xp you can share internet through one of your ethernet adapters (I am assuming you are tyring to share internet to your xbox through your computers built in ethernet).

1 Log on to the host computer as Administrator or as Owner. ( your computer)
2Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3 Click Network and Internet Connections.
4 Click Network Connections.
5 Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. For example, if you connect to the Internet by using a modem, right-click the connection that you want under Dial-up.
6 Click Properties.
7 Click the Advanced tab.
8 Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.

Also if you are directly connecting your xbox to your PC you will probably need a crossover cable. I also don't know if this will work at all but this is my best guess on how to make it work. Good luck.

You must either connect with an ethernet cable or you have to buy the wireless adaptor. Of course it doesn't work, the wifi doesn't come built in. xP

they are connected with an ethernet cable

Use one really long ethernet cable or buy a god-damn wireless adapter.

he's on the floor above us, and my mom wont let me buy one "we already own a computer"

You don't get what I mean by really long ethernet cable.

Drill a hole in the roof and floor of both apartments, feed the ethernet through and then get him to wire it to his router.

Xbox LIVE only works on Xbox. :cookieMonster:

Go to control panel Internet connections, hold control and pick the wireless connection and the Ethernet. Right click>bridge connections. Have fun br0

tried to no avail, fails at network, pc/orb no work either

If you had a router you could just plug a cord into your xbox and router and it would work. (I have like, a 20ft cable connecting my xbox to the router in my parents' room. :/

If he's like me and has negative knowledge about computers that may have been exceptionally helpful. Complex answers aren't always the best ones. :o

EDIT: However as I think about it more I think others may have been trying to say what I did only in a different way.

Try saying that again, but make cents this time.
