Author Topic: Build/Add-on stealing?  (Read 1157 times)

I'm unsure of where this would belong at, so I'll post it here.

Players on here steal builds and claim it as their own. The builder comes here and complains about it. They get flammed and people say stuff like, "It's Badspot's since he owns the game." and "Your hosting a public server so your sharing your build with others. They can take it if they want."

This situation is just the same as if someone stole and add-on. Yet, if that were to happen, then people actually see it as something to worry about. Add-ons and builds are just the same. They are part of Blockland, meaning Badspot owns them. If you uploaded it to the internet, that is just the same as hosting a public server, letting others in to see the build. Allowing them to save it.

If someone steals an add-on and takes credit for it, how is that any different from stealing a build and taking credit for it?

How do you steal an add-on? If you host a public server, visitors only download the model and such but not the script. Therefore you cannot steal add-ons.

I didn't say anything about the add-on coming from a blockland server. Please read the whole thing first....

Well, how did they get a hold of the add-on to steal it? It's a completely different situation to hosting a public server and someone stealing the build, to steal an add-on the add-on maker would have either given it to you are already released it.

Step 1: Upload to Mediafire, or don't upload it at all. If you don't upload, skip to step 4.
Step 2: Click the folder you uploaded to.
Step 3: Click "Make Private".
Step 4: No stealing.

Regulith, you have a solid point. But I'm talking about situations as if someone were to tell a friend a link to a private add-on, then the friend told it to someone else, and that person took credit for the add-on and uploaded it. People would actually make a big fuss about that. But when it comes to a build, nobody except the person who actually built it complains.

why are you thinking of trying it?

If they gave it to someone else then they wouldn't be your friends...

On the other hand then Badspot would move the add-on and ban the guy who stole it if everyone made a fuss.

On the third hand, if they gave you credit then it wouldn't be stealing... I think.

Then ditch the friend and get some you can actually trust.

Here is two examples if nobody is really getting what I'm saying.

Reaction to a stolen add-on. (Even though Jasa didn't steal it and gave full credit.)
